My Favorite Non-Holiday…Festivus.

THE POLE – AIRING OF GRIEVANCES – FESTIVUS DINNER – FEATS OF STRENGTH

iT’S A FESTIVUS MIRACLE!

This non-holiday is to protest holiday materialism.   “Is there a tree? No. Instead, there is a pole. Requires no decoration. I find tinsel distracting.”  George Costanza

Festivus – The Holiday For The Rest Of Us!

Festivus is serious business in my house!  Basically it’s a made up holiday from Seinfeld (season 9, episode 10: “The Strike”).  It occurs around December 23rd and has been a family celebration in my house for the past 13 years.  Every year it gets more interesting.  The Wiki interpretation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festivus

It’s a quirky way to do something different (I wasn’t even into Seinfeld until it was in rerun mode).  The main components are focused on “The Strike” episode but it goes further into the psyche of Seinfeld.  Really, anything Seinfeldian can make its way into a Festivus party.

The food consists of a Seinfeldian menu.  Mostly soup, meatloaf, black and white cookies, my version of spaghetti, and additional RED items.  Here’s a great site for more information and ideas: festivusweb.com/

Disclaimer:  Yeah, my pole has some ornamentation, we have yet to do the Feats Of Strength, and I happen to love Christmas trees so there will be 9+ trees on display.

Just have fun with the idea and make it your own.  -Jenn
